Insites Ecommerce Frequently Asked Questions.

  1. Slug:
  • Uniqueness validation only checks for related products and categories respectively, NOT global / overall website slug uniqueness.
  • This does NOT automatically create a page of the product / category.

 
2. SKU: Does NOT validate uniqueness and is NOT required, it is up to the user to manage this.

 
3. Products & Categories:

  • Categories can have multiple parent categories (multiple sub-categories)
  • Products can have multiple categories.
  • Products will only show on the categories they are associated with. Category’s parent-child relationship does NOT impact the product’s association.
  • Import / Export feature is on our backlog, for planning & future release.

 
4. Media: can be images or files

 
5. Gallery: can only be images only

 
6. Image Versions:

  • The first version on the metadata will be used for your Ecommerce UI label for recommended image dimensions. It is strongly recommended to always have the biggest version at top.
  • When an image is already uploaded on the instance, those images won’t be automatically processed with these versions. You need to re-upload them so that the server can re-process these images and apply the version & their corresponding properties. (ie. When you add a new version, previous product images won’t automatically have the new version. They have to be re-uploaded & re-processed by the server)

 
7. Product Attributes & Variants:

  • Attributes: are add-on properties to your products (ie. colors, size, etc.)
  • Variants: are the product options for customers to choose & buy. Each variant has its own properties like status, price, stock, dimensions, etc.

 
8. Inventory / Stocks / Purchases:

  • Stocks will only be deducted upon a successful purchase, and when settings ‘track inventory’ is enabled. This is for the front-end to apply, as showcased on Ecommerce template.
  • Once a product has been added to cart, relevant product details for purchase (ie. prices) are stored and will be the source of truth up for computations & checkout processes.
    Failed and/or Refund does NOT update stocks.

 
9. Orders and Payments:

  • One order can have 0, 1 or multiple cart; and can have 0, 1 or multiple payments.
  • Cart should be assigned an order_id once it passes through payment. This is handled by the front-end, as showcased on Ecommerce template. This allows orders to see what are the breakdown of items that were purchased.
  • Orders support multiple payments (ie. installment or recurring payments). This is up to front-end to manage as best suited for a project requirement.
  • Payments are associated with orders by assigning order_id to a payment.

 
10. Shipping:

  • Shipping is NOT part of INS Ecommerce as of v1.0.0, but can be added on future updates as feature requests come in.
  • This is handled by a project on its own, but some fields are available across the module to save & display relevant information.

 
11. Settings:

  • Settings are:
  • Currency: AUD (Australian Dollars)
    Track Inventory: Enabled (successful purchases will deduct stocks)
  • Measurement Unit: mm (millimeter)
  • Weight Unit: kg (kilogram)
  • Changing settings does NOT automatically convert values. These are just meant for UI labels.

 
12. Discount Codes

  • Validation is up to the front-end to apply. You can use Insites Template Ecommerce showcase how to use discount codes with validation, calculation and application, which you can customize to fit your business.
  • Discount code default values are:
  • Release Date: 1901-01-01 12:00AM
  • Expire Date: 9999-12-31 12:00AM
  • Usage Limit: unlimited
  • Usage Per User: unlimited
  • Multiply Discount By Quantity: Yes
