Creating a Category

To create a category:

  1. Navigate to Ecommerce from the main menu.
  2. Select Categories.
  3. Select CREATE CATEGORY.
  4. Fill out the forms on each of the following tabs:
    • Details
    • Products
    • Media
    • Gallery
    • Sitemap
    • Metadata
    • Open Graph
    • Schema
    • Custom Fields
  5. Select CREATE CATEGORY.
Note

Product categories can have multiple parent categories and multiple sub-categories.

Details

Use this tab to provide basic information about the category you are creating. The input requirements and descriptions are described in the table below.

Input Label Type Required Description
Category Name Text Field Yes The primary name of the product category used for internal tracking and customer-facing navigation labels.
Slug Text Field No The search-engine-friendly URL path. A clean, keyword-rich slug improves organic search rankings.
Category Heading Text Field No The main title displayed on the category page to orient shoppers and reinforce your brand.
Category Weighting Number Field No Controls the display priority. Lower values move the category to the top of your site's navigation menus.
Parent Categories Multi-Select Field No Defines the site hierarchy. Use this to create subcategories; leave it empty to keep it as a top-level category.
Category Title Input Field No An alternative title used specifically for page headers or internal identification.
Short Description Text Field No A punchy summary that appears on hover or in search results to drive customer clicks.
Long Description HTML Field No Full-length content area. Supports rich media and formatting to provide deep context and SEO-rich copy.
Category Image Image Picker No The visual face of the category. High-quality images on collection pages increase engagement.

Products

Use this tab to assign products to the category. You can assign multiple products to the category.

Product Multi-Select Field Yes Products assigned to the category.

Media

Use this tab to upload media such as files, videos, and music for your product category.

To add media, select one of the clickable fields and choose a file to upload. Alternatively, drag a file from your local machine onto the clickable field. Repeat the process if you need to add more files.

Note

Please take note of the following system behaviors when adding media files for your product category:


  • Use the 'Gallery' tab to upload images as best practice.
  • You can add up to four media files with a maximum size of 10MB each.

Gallery

Use this tab to upload image files for your product category.

To add an image, select one of the clickable fields and choose an image to upload or drag an image onto the clickable field. Repeat the process if you need to add more files.

Gallery 1 Upload Field No Image gallery for the product category. You may upload up to 200 files, with a maximum file size of 10 MB per file.
Gallery 2 Upload Field No Image gallery for the product category. You may upload up to 200 files, with a maximum file size of 10 MB per file.
Note

Please take note of the following system behaviors when adding image files for your product category:


  • You can only upload images on this tab. Use the 'Media' tab to add videos and other media.
  • One field corresponds to an album. You can upload up to 10 images per album.
  • Recommended image dimensions are 1280px by 1280px. The maximum file size per image is 10 MB.

Sitemap

The sitemap serves as a roadmap for search engine crawlers, helping them navigate and understand the structure of your pages. Well-designed sitemaps improve your web pages' chances of ranking higher and appearing more frequently in search results.

Input Label Type Required Description
Add To System Sitemap Toggle No Add or hide the product page from the system sitemap.
Priority Numerical Field No The priority of this product page's URL relative to other URLs on the site. Valid values range from 0.0 to 1.0. URLs are sorted in descending order.
Order Numerical Field No The order of this product page's URL in relation to other URLs having the same priority value. Similar priority URLs are sorted in ascending order.
Change Frequency Dropdown Field No

An indication provided to search engines about how often this product page will likely change or be updated. Options include the following:

  • Always
  • Hourly
  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Monthly
  • Yearly

Note that crawlers treat the values chosen as a 'hint,' not a 'command.' For example, crawlers may crawl pages marked 'hourly' less frequently than that.

Metadata

Use this tab to input product category metadata. Field descriptions and requirements are outlined in the table below:

Is Visible to Search Engine Toggle No Use this option to show or hide the product category's page on search results.
Canonical URL Text Field No Identifies the preferred version of a web page to prevent SEO penalties from duplicate content.
Meta Title Text Field No The clickable headline for the page in search results. Optimal length is 40–60 characters.
Meta Description Text Field No The summary snippet appearing under the title in search results. Optimal length is 150–160 characters.

Open Graph

Open Graph metadata standardizes how your webpage appears when shared on social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and X (formerly Twitter). Customizing these fields ensures your product stands out in social feeds.

Field descriptions and requirements are outlined in the table below:

Use Meta Title as Open Graph Title Toggle No Pulls the existing SEO Meta Title for social sharing. Disable this to enter a unique title for social platforms.
Open Graph Title Text Field No Customized title for your product's post on your chosen social media platform. The field can only be used if the 'Use Meta Title as Open Graph Title' option is turned off.
Use Meta Description as Open Graph Description Toggle No Syncs the existing SEO Meta Description with social posts. Disable to customize the snippet for social audiences.
Open Graph Description Text Field No Short summary appearing under the title in social feeds. Use this to drive clicks with a strong call to action.
Open Graph Image Image Picker No The image in the preview of your content. The maximum file size is 10MB.
Open Graph URL Text Field No The canonical link associated with the content to ensure all shares point to a single authoritative source.
Open Graph Site Name Text Field No The name of your site.
Open Graph Type Text Field No Type of content, i.e., website, article, and blog.

Schema

Schema markup is a structured data vocabulary that helps search engines understand the specific components of your product page. Providing this data allows search engines to display 'rich results,' such as star ratings, prices, and stock availability, directly in search listings.

This tab has a single input field with descriptions and requirements displayed in the table below

Schema Code Editor No JSON-LD structured data representing product details like name, brand, SKU, and aggregate ratings.

Custom Fields

You can use this tab to create and manage custom fields. Custom fields store and manage extra information that is not part of the system's standard data structure and set of fields. These fields let you tailor the platform to specific needs by enabling users to capture and organize data unique to their business or use case.
