Product Options and Variants

You can add and manage product options and variants in Insites Ecommerce, providing your online store customers with an enhanced array of choices.

For instance, consider a T-shirt store. In this context, product options represent variable individual attributes, such as size, color, or material, for a T-shirt. These options are defined independently and can be combined in various ways to create product variants.

Conversely, product variants are specific combinations of product options that represent a distinct sellable item. For example, a 'red cotton T-shirt in size XS' would be a product variant. Each variant has its unique SKU, price, inventory status, and other relevant attributes.

The system's flexibility allows for countless attribute combinations, each generating a unique, trackable product variant.

Managing product options

You can add, update, and delete product options. The next sections discuss the steps in detail. Topics in this section include:

Adding a product option

To add an option to a product:

  1. Navigate to Ecommerce from the main menu.
  2. Select Products.
  3. Find the product to which you want to add an option and select its Edit row action link.
  4. Navigate to the 'Variants' tab.
  5. Enable product variants using the 'Product Variants' toggle.
  6. Select ADD OPTION.
  7. Fill out the form for adding a product option.
  8. Select ADD OPTION.

The table below displays the input descriptions and requirements for adding an Attribute to a Product:

Updating a product option

To update a product option:

  1. Navigate to Ecommerce from the main menu.
  2. Select Products.
  3. Find the product whose product option you want to update and select its Edit row action link.
  4. Navigate to the 'Variants' tab.
  5. In the 'Product Options' section, find the product option you want to update and select its Edit row action link.
  6. Make your changes.
  7. Select SAVE.
  8. Use the confirmation modal to finalize your updates.

Deleting a product option

To delete a product option:

  1. Navigate to Ecommerce from the main menu.
  2. Select Products.
  3. Find the product whose option you want to delete and select its Edit row action link.
  4. Navigate to the 'Variants' tab.
  5. In the 'Product Options' section, find the product option you want to delete and select its Delete row action link.
  6. Confirm the deletion of the product option using the confirmation modal.
  7. Finalize the deletion of the product option by selecting SAVE.

Managing product variants

Product variants are made from a combination of product options. Creating product variants requires predefined product options. Establish these options first to improve workflow efficiency.

Adding a product variant

To add a product variant:

  1. Navigate to Ecommerce from the main menu.
  2. Select Products.
  3. Find the product to which you want to add a variant and select its Edit row action link.
  4. Navigate to the 'Pricing' tab.
  5. Select ADD VARIANT.
  6. Fill out the form for creating your product variant.
  7. Select ADD VARIANT.

Options

You will see different fields in this section depending on your configured product options.

Details

This section includes the following field:

Inventory

This section includes the following fields:

Input Label Type Required Description
Variant SKU Input Field Yes SKU code for inventory tracking of the product variant. Note that this does not validate uniqueness.
Stock Level Numerical Field No Stock level of the product variant in the inventory.

Pricing

This section includes the following fields:

Input Label Type Required Description
Variant Price Number Field No Standard retail price of the product variant charged to the customer under normal conditions.
Variant price includes tax Checkbox No When enabled, the system treats the product variant price as the gross amount (tax-inclusive). If disabled, tax is added at checkout.
Sale Price Number Field No Discounted price point, usually used for promotions. Value is active only when 'Use sale price' is toggled on.
Sale price includes tax Checkbox No Determines whether the sale price already accounts for tax or whether tax should be calculated and added at checkout.
Use sale price Checkbox No Toggle to activate the sale price. When checked, your site shows this price instead of the standard product variant price.
Tax Type Radio Select No Defines the calculation method for tax, such as a fixed flat fee or a percentage-based rate (VAT/GST). Options include:

  • Percentage
  • Fixed Amount
Tax Number Field Yes The numerical value of the tax to be applied.
Cost Price Number Field No Internal-only field representing what you paid for the item. Used to calculate profit margins and ROI in backend reporting.
Compare-at Price Number Field No The original or 'MSRP' price shown with a strikethrough on the front end to visually demonstrate savings or discounts to the customer.

Shipping Measurements

This section includes the following fields:

Shipping Length Numerical Field No Length of the packaged product variant for shipping.
Shipping Width Numerical Field No Width of the packaged product variant for shipping.
Shipping Height Numerical Field No Height of the packaged product variant for shipping.
Shipping Weight Numerical Field No Weight of the packaged product variant for shipping.

Updating a product variant

To update a product variant:

  1. Navigate to Ecommerce from the main menu.
  2. Select Products.
  3. Find the product whose variant you want to update and select its Edit row action link.
  4. Navigate to the 'Pricing' tab.
  5. In the 'Product Variants' section, find the product variant you want to update and select its Edit row action link.
  6. Make your changes.
  7. Select SAVE.

Deleting a product variant

To delete a product variant:

  1. Navigate to Ecommerce from the main menu.
  2. Select Products.
  3. Find the product whose variant you want to delete and select its Edit row action link.
  4. Navigate to the 'Pricing' tab.
  5. In the 'Product Variants' section, find the product variant you want to delete and select its Delete row action link.
  6. Finalize the deletion of the product variant using the confirmation modal.
