Managing Databases Introduction

A database is a collection of electronic information (data) logically organised by an electronic device such as a computer or mobile phone. Databases take the form of tables, making them similar to spreadsheets. They are, however, more powerful and flexible but more complex than spreadsheets. Some of their advantages are:

  • The ability to handle multiple users.
  • Linking multiple datasets together.
  • Handle large datasets.
  • Query datasets easily.
  • Ability to visualise the dataset in multiple methods.

In Insites, rows that make up the database table are called Database Items. Subsequently, columns are called Fields. Visit the links below for a guide on using databases on the Insites Database Manager:
