Add, verify and choose the addresses an instance sends email from, on the Domains tab of the instance in the Console.
Email senders are the addresses your instance can send email from. Each sender is a name and an address. The Email Senders card sits on the Domains section of a production instance, below the list of domains. Staging instances do not have it, because you cannot connect a domain to a staging instance.
One sender is the default. Insites copies the list to your instance, so your own email templates can use it. See Sending Email from Your Own Domain.
Every production instance has the sender no-reply@insites.site. It is always available, so your instance can send email before any domain is connected. It cannot be removed. It is the default sender until you make another sender the default. Its name is your account name until you change it.
Senders are grouped by domain. The Insites group comes first, then the domain of the default sender, then the other domains from A to Z. The default sender shows the Default mark.
If a domain cannot send email right now, its group heading says so. Its senders stay in the list, and they send from no-reply@insites.site with the same name until the domain can send again. This happens when:
Select View domain on the heading to open the domain and fix it. A removed domain has no page, so it has no View domain button.
The domain page also lists the senders at that domain, with View senders to go back to this card.
You can add a sender only at a domain whose email notifications are live. To get there, connect the domain with email notifications on, and add its email records. See Instance Domains.
| Input Label | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | Text Field | Yes | Shown as who the email is from. It starts as your account name. Up to 64 characters. |
| Address | Text Field and Dropdown Field | Yes | Type the part before the @, such as hello, and pick the domain. The list shows only domains whose email notifications are live. Use letters, numbers and . _ + - only, with no dot at the start, at the end or twice in a row. Up to 64 characters before the @. The address does not need an inbox. Replies go to the address each form or email sets. |
| Make this the default sender | Checkbox | No | Makes the new sender the default. |
If no domain has live email notifications yet, the drawer tells you to connect a domain and add its email records, with a Connect a domain link. Each address can be added once.
You can also tick Make this the default sender when you add or edit a sender.
Editors and above can add and edit senders and change the default. Other roles can see the list, but Add sender is disabled and the sender menus are hidden.
Note: You cannot remove a sender yet.
To use the senders in your own email templates, see Sending Email from Your Own Domain.
