Send your first email notification

A branded email, and where to see whether it arrived.
Your instance sends email for you: a thank-you when a form is submitted, a note to your team when a lead arrives, a reminder before an event. This guide builds one branded email, sends it from a form, and shows where to check that it was delivered. On a staging instance the email goes to your test recipients, so you can try it safely; see Choose who gets test emails.
Add your email logo
Go to CMS > Globals, open the Emails tab, select Edit, upload an Email Logo and save. Every branded email can now show it.
Make a branded layout
Go to CMS > Layouts and select Create Layout. Name it Branded email. Its content loads your globals, shows the email logo and company name, and leaves a place for each email's own text. The layout to paste is in Send a branded email. You build the brand once here, and every email that uses the layout shares it.
Create the email
- Go to CMS > Emails and create an email.
- On the Details tab, enter an Email Name and choose your Branded email layout. The built-in Insites External Email Layout is there too if you would rather start with that.
- On the Header tab, fill in From Email Address, To and Email Subject. To takes several addresses separated by commas. From Name, Reply To, CC, BCC and a preheader are optional.
- Write the message on the Content tab and save.
Two fields on the Details tab control when it goes: Delay, in minutes, and Trigger Condition, a rule that must come out as true for the email to send. Leave both empty to send straight away.
Send it from a form
Open a form under Forms, add an email notification and pick your email, so it goes out each time someone submits. See Form email notifications. Submit the form once yourself to test it.
Check it arrived
Go to Settings > Email Logs. Every email the instance has sent is listed with who it went to and whether it was delivered, opened or clicked. Select a row for the content that was sent and the delivery detail, and resend one that failed. Filter by module, notification, status or date, or search by recipient or subject.
Note
Email goes out from the sender addresses you have verified. If a message shows as failed with a sender problem, set up your sending domain first: see Email Senders.
