Instance Metrics

Last updated on October 11, 2026

The Usage tab of an instance shows how the instance uses its resources over time. It has one chart for each of six metrics, so you can spot growth early and plan an upgrade before you reach a limit.

Everyone who can open the instance can see the Usage tab.

Viewing an Instance's Usage

  1. Navigate to Instances from the main menu.
  2. Find the instance on the main page or inside a folder.
  3. Select the instance to open it.
  4. Select the Usage tab.

The Six Charts

ChartWhat It ShowsDefault Period
Data Objects Data objects are read once a day, at 02:00 UTC. A month shows its last reading. Last 12 months
Storage Storage is read once a day, at 02:00 UTC. A month shows its last reading. Last 12 months
API Calls The number of external API calls used. The count resets at 00:00 UTC on the 1st of each month. This month
Background Jobs The number of background jobs used. The count resets at 00:00 UTC on the 1st of each month. This month
Emails The number of emails sent. The count resets at 00:00 UTC on the 1st of each month. This month
SMS The number of SMS messages sent. The count resets at 00:00 UTC on the 1st of each month. This month

All days and months on this tab are in UTC.

Choosing a Period

Each chart has its own period control on its card. Changing the period of one chart does not change the others.

  • Data Objects and Storage offer: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days and Last 12 months.
  • API Calls, Background Jobs, Emails and SMS offer: Today, This week, Last week, This month, Last month, This year and Last year.
  • Every chart also offers Custom range…. Pick the start and end dates, then select Apply.

When you change a period, a reset button appears beside the control. Select it to go back to the chart's default period.

Reading a Chart

  • Days or months. A period that starts on the 1st and covers four or more calendar months, including the current one, shows one point per month. Every other period shows one point per day. Select the info button under the chart to read this rule.
  • The caption. The line under the chart says what each point is, and whether the period is still running. For example, a running month on a count chart says the last point is the total so far, not the month's total.
  • The plan limit. On a production instance, the chart draws your plan's limit as a line. If the limit is far above your usage, the chart shows a sentence instead, with your highest value as a percentage of the plan. Staging instances have no plan, so they show no limit.
  • Created and Today. The chart marks the day or month the instance was created, and shades the time before it. On a count chart set to the whole of this month, it marks Today and runs on to the end of the month.
  • No data. If nothing was used in the period, the chart says No usage recorded in this period. If the whole period is before the instance was created, it says This instance did not exist in this period.

Going Over the Plan Allowance

This applies to production instances only.

When a metric goes over its plan allowance, a banner shows at the top of the instance page, on every tab. It reads Over the plan allowance for and names the metric, or the number of metrics. Select View usage on the banner to open the Usage tab.

What else you see depends on your role:

RoleWhat You See
Admin and Owner The banner shows the amount so far this month. The Usage tab shows an Overage Charges card at the top with the total so far. Each chart's description ends with the rate charged over the allowance, and a chart that is over shows a note under it with how far over it is and the amount so far.
Viewer, Editor and Developer The banner says that usage over the allowance is charged and that Admins can see the amount. No amounts or rates are shown.

For your plan and invoices, see the Billing page, which needs the Admin role or above.

If the Charts Do Not Load

All six charts come from one request. If it fails, the tab shows one Usage card that says Couldn’t load in place of the charts. Select Try again.
